Georgie is an Associate in the Employment Law team in our Christchurch office.
She graduated from Otago University with an LLB and has built up her experience as a Solicitor working in New Zealand and more recently in London at the Government Legal Department, managing complex litigation. Georgie has developed a particular interest in claims involving allegations of discrimination.
Before relocating to London, Georgie was a Senior Solicitor at a large New Zealand firm, advising on a wide range of employment law matters, including disciplinary processes, restructures, health and safety, and workplace investigations. Georgie regularly represented clients in mediations and appeared as a junior in the Employment Relations Authority.
With more than seven years of experience, Georgie is dedicated to building strong client relationships and delivering pragmatic solutions.
Experience
Managing employment litigation for HM Revenue & Customs and the Home Office, involving unfair dismissal for gross misconduct, discrimination (including disability, pregnancy/maternity, sex, race, and religion) failure to make reasonable adjustments, victimisation and flexible working.
Case highlights include:
- J Davies v His Majesty’s Passport Office 2500265/2024. Both claims of unfair dismissal and discrimination on the grounds of disability were dismissed. Issues included cancer as a disability and impaired cognitive abilities;
- D Finneran v The Commissioner for His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs 1305139/2023. Claim for unfair dismissal was dismissed.
Managing judicial review cases and other public law litigation for the Ministry of Justice and Department for Education, including advising on reasonable adjustments to ensure eligible disabled pupils could access their free school meals entitlement.
Other case highlights include:
- The King on the application of Vasile Dragoi v Secretary of State for Justice CO/2210/2023 AC-2023-LON-001849. Claim for judicial review dismissed. Issues involved unlawful detention.
Advising on a wide range of matters such as recruitment, employment agreements, performance management, personal grievances, discrimination, long-term sickness, termination of employment, exit negotiations and redundancy.
