Mike King

Profile

Mike King is a Partner in Lane Neave’s national dispute resolution and litigation team, specialising in commercial, property and shareholder disputes, as well as high‑value relationship property, and trust and estate litigation.

Mike works closely with business owners, directors, shareholders, property developers and high‑net‑worth individuals to resolve disputes that often arise from breakdowns in trust, misaligned expectations or governance failures.

While Mike regularly appears in Court and in arbitrations, he works with clients to identify opportunities for early resolution, strategic negotiation, or alternative dispute resolution where appropriate, while remaining a firm and effective advocate when Court proceedings cannot be avoided.

Mike has particular expertise in:

  • Shareholder and director disputes, including oppression claims and governance breakdowns.
  • Commercial disputes arising from misrepresentation or breach of contract.
  • Property disputes, including disputes involving development projects and joint ventures.
  • Relationship property, and trust and estate disputes involving complex asset structures.
  • Insolvency related litigation and recovery of debt claims.

Clients value Mike’s ability to cut through complexity, identify core issues quickly, communicate risk in plain language, and align legal strategy with broader commercial objectives.

Outside of practice, Mike has a strong interest in governance and leadership. He is a board member of Triathlon New Zealand and brings that governance perspective to his advisory and litigation work.
