Nurturing future legal talent

“This was one of the best events I’ve attended. It felt genuine and welcoming.”

This is how one student described the recent UC Asian Law Students’ Society (ALSS) seminar hosted at our Christchurch offices. Organised by Senior Solicitor Aglaia Tee, the event brought together aspiring lawyers for an evening of insight, inspiration and connection.

Following a welcome and karakia, Talent Acquisition Specialist Emily Watson shared an overview of Lane Neave’s summer clerk and graduate programmes. Students then posed questions to a panel of lawyers from diverse backgrounds and career stages. Students praised both the session as a whole and the panel’s openness and relatability.

“The host Emily was very accommodating and approachable, and the panel had lots of insight that was invaluable to hear as a law student,” said Mart.

“It was great to have a panel with a range of backgrounds and experience, as not everyone has the same idea of what the road to the legal profession looks like.”

Rachel, a third-year law student, added: “I found the practical tips and personal perspectives very helpful. It was also great to learn more about the firm’s culture and values through the discussion.”

Another attendee reflected, “The panel event gave me a better insight into what’s out there beyond the expectations we have in general. It made me more certain that this is what I’m willing to strive for in the next few years.”

Aglaia regularly provides her time to ALSS and was the driving force behind the session, resulting in a special shout-out from the organisation’s Corporate Relations Director.

“It truly would not have happened without your help, and it turned out to be such a valuable and inspiring experience for everyone who attended.”

The session was one of numerous events run by Lane Neave annually as part of our commitment to nurturing future legal talent and fostering meaningful engagement with the next generation of professionals.
