Employment law is changing – events to help ensure you’re ready

We’re teaming up with Human Resources New Zealand (HRNZ) for two highly topical employment law events over the coming weeks and would love for you to join us.

Both will explore the Employment Relations Amendment Act 2026 – one of the most significant overhauls of New Zealand’s employment law framework in recent years. These changes will affect the majority of employers, and preparation is essential.

Thursday 12 March – in-person seminar in Christchurch

In partnership with HRNZ’s Canterbury Branch, our Managing Partner Andrew Shaw and the Lane Neave Employment Team will unpack the practical implications of the reform and outline what your organisation should be doing now.

This is a practical, employer-focused session designed to help you navigate risk and ensure compliance.

The session will cover:
• How the reform impacts disciplinary, performance management and without prejudice processes.
• The new personal grievance income threshold — and what it means when negotiating with and dismissing senior employees.
• Whether you can rely on the new contractor gateway test.
• Implications for unionised workforces.
• Other recent and imminent law changes, including termination by agreement, pay deductions for partial strikes, the new theft by employer offence, and recent pay secrecy amendments.

Details

  • When: Thursday 12 March, 4.30pm (drinks and nibbles), with the seminar running from 5– 6pm.
